This is a subject that’s somewhat personal and I’m sure it’s not a hot topic of conversation. Unless you have them – hemorrhoids. Then this will be of interest to you.

Calendula Tincture for the Relief of Hemorrhoids.

1 – 16 ounce bottle of Witch Hazel – you can buy this in any drug store or Wal-Mart.

2 –  tablespoons of dried calendula flowers

In a glass jar or ceramic bowl, add the entire bottle of Witch Hazel and the calendula flowers. Cover the jar or bowl and let the mixture stand for 8 hours at room temperature. Strain off the calendula, and pour the herb infused mixture into a spray bottle.

Spray hemorrhoids after showering and before bedtime. This tincture can also be applied with cotton balls or gauze pads. The tincture is non-greasy and has a pleasant fragrance. You can use this  several times a week to help soothe the irritation.

Store the tincture at room temperature. For EXTERNAL use only.

Herbal Compress for Sunburn.

1 tablespoon of dried mint leaves

1 tablespoon of dried lavender flowers

1 tablespoon of dried rosemary leaves

3 whole bay leaves

Tie the herbs up in a muslin bag, clean white handkerchief or a bandana. Use a rubber band or string to secure the bundle.

In a large bowl or basin, add the bundle of herbs, 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of boiling water. Let the herbs infuse in the vinegar water for 30 minutes. Remove the herb bundle before using the tincture. Dip a soft wash cloth into the tincture and wring out slightly. Apply the cloth gently to the sunburned area. You can also add this soothing tincture to a spray bottle and apply it to the sunburned area. Repeat as often as you wish. It will help reduce the sting and redness.

Bladder Flush

2 cups of  spring or distilled water, boiling

1 tablespoon of dried mint

1 tablespoon of dried parsley

1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon of clover honey

Add the herbs to a teapot or large mug. Pour boiling water over the herbs, steep 3 minutes. Strain out the herbs, stir in the lemon juice and honey. Drink while hot. You can enjoy 2 or 3 cups each day. This bladder flush helps to prevent minor infections and irritation.

The parsley and mint contain compounds that prevent bacteria from clinging to the walls of the bladder. The lemon juice and honey produce an acid environment that prevents the build-up of common bacteria.

Immune Boosting Rose Hips Tea

2 cups of spring or distilled water

2 black or green tea bags, or you can use 2 tablespoons of loose black tea

1 short cinnamon stick or 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

1/2 tablespoon of dried rose hips [ you can buy these in a health food store ]

In a medium sauce pan, bring the water to a boil. Remove from heat, and add the tea bags or loose tea, the cinnamon and the rose hips. Cover the sauce pan and let the tea steep for 3 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh strainer, and drink the tea infusion. This is an excellent tea to help prevent colds and the sniffles. A wonderful tea to drink while recovering from the flu.
