Scents of the Season

For a festive holiday party, add 5 drops of peppermint, allspice, or orange essential oil to the melting wax around the wick of candles. What a fragrance !
Place 5 drops of peppermint essential oil in a small pan of simmering water. Instant holiday scent !
Dab three drops of orange or lavender essential oil on a Q-tip. Lightly tap this on cool light bulbs. Allow to dry. What a fragrance when the lights come on.
Tuck fresh rosemary sprigs on gift bows or ribbons for a sensational holiday scent.
When drying herbs and flowers for potpourri, stir them weekly to expose all sides to air. Shoe boxes are good for drying as the cardboard allows for air flow.
Place herb sachets between the cushions of the sofa or chairs to freshen up the living room before a party. Herb sachet suggestions: lavender, roses and jasmine. Or, cinnamon sticks and peppermint.
Quick to make : Holiday sachets… Mix equal parts of orange mint, spearmint, lemon balm, rosemary, lavender and dried orange peel. Combine the herbs in a zip-lock bag, and close the bag. Let it sit overnight. Fill colorful sachet bags with the mix. Give to family and friends. The sachets make great stocking-stuffers as well.
Simple but sensational: Fill a small saucepan with warm water. Add a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract. Simmer on low heat. It will fill the house with a holiday aroma.
Guests stopping by? Sprinkle dried peppermint and rosemary on the carpets. Wait 20 minutes, then vacuum. The warmth of the motor increases the scent. Holiday fragrance !
