Pizza Garden For Kids
This is a fun and delicious garden to grow all summer. Have Mom or Dad till up a space in the garden, or if you like, this garden can be grown in containers. It would be a neat idea to have a completely round garden shaped like a pizza. In this round circle you can plant, 1 green pepper plant, 1 Roma tomato plant, some scallion or green onions, chives would be nice as well. The herbs should be Italian flat leaf parlsey, oregano, and sweet Italian basil. You could buy some garlic bulbs at the grocery store and plant those too. They are mild and sweet, and the crunchy green part is so good on pizza. The pizza garden must have sun and good soil. Be sure to water it once a week.
In about two months depending on the weather, the vegetables will be ready for harvest. Why not invite a few of your friends over for a pizza party? Send out invitations in the shape of pizza slices. You can draw the invitations on construction paper or poster board. Color the invitations red and white and write the time and place on the slices. Deliver them to your friends.
Ask Mom and Dad to take you shopping for the party. Check the Dollar Tree for neat stuff like red table cloths, white napkins, red cups and white forks.
You will need the following items for the party:
Two or three packages of English muffins, shredded mozzarella cheese, grated parmasan cheese and canned tomato sauce. The vegetables and herb toppings will come from your garden.
Have Mom or dad split the muffins in half and lay them in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Top each muffin with a tablespoon of sauce and add the cheese, Slice the Roma tomatoes thinly and finely chop the scallions, onions, and green pepper. Let Mom and Dad do this and you can help them. Chop the fresh herbs and sprinkle them on top. Add-ons could be: pepperoni, cubed ham, pineapple, bacon bits.
Bake the pizzas for about 10 minutes in pre-heated 350 oven. Never use the oven without help from an adult.
Serve the pizzas with lemon-aid, or apple juice, or bottles of cold water. Brownies and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Just think how much fun this will be when your friends bite into these pizzas and you tell them “I grew the herbs and vegetables myself.”
What would be even more fun this summer? You and your friends, brothers and sisters, cousins, could each have a Pizza Garden. Lots of fresh veggies and herbs all summer.
Happy Gardening Little People.
